13.-14.05.25 Excursion Gartow and Gorleben

Students of the module “Management of Soil Organic Matter” accompanied employees of the research department to conduct field work near Gartow in the Wendland in Lower Saxony. The long-term field experiment was sampled down to subsoil, similarly to the field work last year in Bayreuth, to compare the vertical transport of biochar in different soils. After successfully completing the field campaign in early-summer heat the students went on an excursion first to the information center and then to the interim starage facility for radioactive waste in Gorleben. At the end of the field trip, Nordic Dark Earth was sampled in a floodplain of the Laascher Lake for future research.
