Organic On-Farm Research Station Görzig

On the former Görzig domain, the Institute of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences has the opportunity to carry out experiments on arable land under practical conditions (on-farm research) on around 100 ha. The land has been farmed organically by the Hof Pfaffendorf farm association since 2022.

The Organic On-Farm Research Station Görzig is located in the eastern Harz foreland in the district of Köthen in Saxony-Anhalt. Characteristic soil types are weak clayey and sandy silt. Based on the "Soil Science Mapping Guide", the majority of the site is assigned to soil group 4.


Comprehensive data series enable the climatic classification of this area. For the period from 1971 to 2000 (30-year comparison period), the area reached an average temperature level of around 9°C. In winter, the months are characterized by a temperature above 0 °C. In the central summer months, a temperature of around 18 °C is typical for this area. Average annual precipitation of 472 mm poses challenges for agriculture. The area is already classified as a dry region.
