Nutritional Physiology

Welcome to the website of the Nutritional Physiology group.
Head of group: Prof. Dr. Andrea Henze

The research of the group Nutritional Physiology aims to investigate the influence of nutrition and nutritional components on physiological functions and to understand their significance in the aging process as well as the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of nutrition- and age-related diseases (including insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension).

To address these questions, material from cell culture, animal experiments, and human studies is used. In addition to conventional molecular biological, biochemical, and histological investigations, the analyses focus primarily on the characterization of metabolism through mass spectrometry-based proteomic and protein analysis. In this context, our particular interest lies in posttranslational modifications and protein isoforms.
