amendments effect on nutrient and
contaminnat dynamics in the subsurface
(TwinSubDyn)

TwinSubDyn project is kicked off!

Twinning excellence on organic soil amendments effect on nutrient and contaminant dynamics in the subsurface - this is the title of a new EU project with participation of the working group Soil Biogeochemistry. The University of Novi Sad, coordinator of the project was also the host of the kick-off meeting. MLU side was represented by Bruno Glaser and Arthur Gross.

Podcast Identification of organic vegetables through epigenetics

The Volkswagen Foundation supports scientific research projects, especially those involving high risk. Ivo Große, Bruno Glaser and Claudius Grehl are researching how organically grown vegetables differ from conventionally grown vegetables at the epigenetic level. Every year, more vegetables with organic labels are sold in Germany than are actually grown. A reliable test would be very important in order to prevent food fraud. And indeed, the initial results are very promising: epigenetic changes have been detected in potatoes and soybeans.

16th Long Night of Science (23 June 2017, 5 p.m. – 1 a.m.)

Detective work in the soil: On the trail of our past

(Dr. Katja Wiedner, 8:30–9:15 p.m., Room 3.22, 3rd floor, Von-Seckendorff-Platz 3)

Soils are much more than just the ‘dirt’ under our feet. They hold the secrets of our human history, which can be unravelled with detective-like intuition. Marvel at the findings of archaeological soil science research and learn about the enormous significance this has for the major challenges of today.

(Micro)plastics in soils – the underestimated danger!

(Dr. Katja Wiedner, 10:00–10:30 p.m., Room 3.21, 3rd floor, Von-Seckendorff-Platz 3)

Our soils are increasingly becoming ‘rubbish dumps’. Around 50,000 tonnes of plastic waste end up in nature in Germany every year, and thus also on our fields. What dangers and consequences does this have for our health and nature?

74th Symposium: Waste Management Meets Biochar – Prospects for Climate Protection?

1 October 2013, 9:30 a.m. – 2 October 2013, 6:00 p.m., Potsdam ‘With this year`s 74th ANS Symposium, we want to achieve one thing above all else: an intensive and creative dialogue   between two fascinating worlds – for future paths towards a   shared future.’
