Saxony-Anhalt SCIENCE Research and Innovation (EFRE) – LC-HRMS – ‘Application for equipment investments by the Soil Biogeochemis

 EFRE Sachsen-Anhalt - EU
The project involves the purchase of a high-resolution mass spectrometer (LC-HRMS) for the Soil Biogeochemistry Working Group at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The aim is to strengthen research capacities in soil and environmental research through the use of state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to investigate organic compounds in soil and environmental samples.
The new HRMS system (Orbitrap technology), in combination with liquid chromatography, DART and MALDI sources, enables precise analysis of both liquid and solid samples. It allows targeted, semi-targeted and non-targeted approaches to the identification and characterisation of complex organic molecules, thereby contributing significantly to the elucidation of biogeochemical processes, the sustainable use of resources and the closure of material cycles.
The investment will strengthen MLU's research excellence in the long term. The project lays the foundation for innovative scientific collaborations in the fields of agricultural, environmental and biogeosciences, as well as for the training of qualified specialists in the degree programmes Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, Biodiversity, Natural Resource Management and Bioinformatics.
