Accreditation of External Modules

General Information

Please distinguish between

  • an inquiry about accreditation options and
  • the actual Application for Accreditation.

You can send an inquiry about the requirements for the accreditation of a specific course by mail to the Examinations Office or the Student Advisory Service of your degree program. The request should be as specific as possible so that a comprehensive and quick response is possible.

The actual Application for Accreditation must be submitted in writing to the Examinations Office using this form and can only be submitted after the module has been completed. Otherwise, processing will not be possible or will be unnecessarily delayed.

As a case-by-case assessment must always be carried out, collective applications are not possible.

Evidence to Be Submitted

The application must be accompanied by:

  • proof of the work completed, including grade (official certificate from the Examination Office) and
  • information from official sources (Handbook of Courses, StPO or similar) on the specific course content and the scope of teaching (number of SWS, number of ECTS) of the module to be accredited.

Only in this way is it possible to carry out the legally required assessment of the equivalence of the coursework completed.

Legal Regulations

The legal basis for the accreditation of credits earned outside the degree program is set out in the General Provisions of the Study and Examination Regulations and in the specific Study and Examination Regulations of your degree program. These can be found on the website of the Examination Office.

In addition, the relevant Study and Examination Board can make specific regulations for the accreditation of individual modules.
