Open positions and student projects
*** Open PhD Student Position! ***
In our associated institute AIP, we currently have an open PhD student position in the project ANIME - Association of nitrogen efficiency with metal homeostasis within the MOLDÜNG consortium.
The re-translocation of nitrogen (N) under deficiency and stress conditions is an important component of N efficiency in plants and thus the basis of sustainable production systems. Our preliminary work indicates an important role of intracellular metal transport in this process, which is poorly understood and has not been exploited in breeding. This project aims to elucidate the mechanisms of this process and utilise them to improve the N efficiency of crops.
The position is initally funded for three years with a possible extension. The position will remain vacant until a suitable candidate has been found.

Student projects (BSc and MSc theses)
A main focus of our work is on membrane transport and signalling. If you are interested in the way mineral elements are transported and what roles they play there are always opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects. Currently we can accommodate project students in the following areas:
- The physiological roles of transport proteins in nutrition and signalling processes of plants
- The generation of calcium signals in plants
- Manganese transport, detoxification, and efficiency
In the course of your project you will get familiar with a range of molecular, biochemical and techniques, as well as the phenotypical analysis of plants.
